SVP, Alternative Programming
Heather Olander serves as senior vice president, alternative programming where she oversees all USA alternative development and production. She reports to Jeff Wachtel, co-president, USA and co-head of original content, Universal Cable Productions. She is based in Los Angeles.
Olander has overseen production USA Network's reality series The Moment, The Choir and Partners in Crime. She is currently developing the network's upcoming slate of non-scripted projects including Bride or Best Man, All In, The Cowboy Way and Santa Barbra.
Olander was most recently vice president, programming and development for CBS Television Distribution where she was involved with developing new syndicated shows as well as overseeing current first-run strips. She oversaw the development and production of the pilot Excused for syndication, and also developed the daytime talk show pilot Say it Now for CBS. Prior to CTD, Olander was at MTV, where she served as vice president of original series development and current programming. While at MTV she managed the development and production of primetime and daytime series, including Rob and Big, A Shot at Love, Legally Blonde The Musical: The Search for Elle Woods, Disaster Date and Taking the Stage. She also executive produced Britney: For the Record. In 2001 she joined Carsey Werner Mandabach as director of alternative series development where she created and developed Boarding House: North Shore, a one-hour reality summer series for The WB. She also worked on the development and production of The Offensive Show, a half-hour variety pilot for Showtime; The Ross Show, a half-hour pilot for Bravo starring The Tonight Show's Ross Mathews; and Starved, a scripted half-hour for FX.
Olander graduated with a BA from Cornell University.
