  • In conversation with: Mark Itkin, WME

The agenda for the most important global market and conference for the unscripted and factual entertainment industry is online and nearing completion. Take a peek at the panels on tap at the 18th edition of the Realscreen Summit. This "can't miss" event on the industry calendar is known for inspirational and timely content presented in an interesting variety of formats: structured networking sessions, keynotes and panel discussions, including In conversation with: Mark Itkin, WME.

Mike Darnell calls Mark Itkin "simply the best in the business," and it's an assessment shared by many in the television world. Over the course of a 34-year career, the veteran WME agent, one of the key "behind-the-scenes" players in the unscripted programming explosion of the past two decades, packaged such staples as The Real World, Project Runway, Deal or No Deal and Extreme Makeover: Home Edition, and was also a trailblazing force when it came to bringing international formats such as Big Brother and Hell's Kitchen to the U.S. He put the agency in the forefront of the first-run syndication business packaging such hits as Ricki Lake and American Gladiators. He also helped devise the 10/90 scripted model with Debmar-Mercury by packaging Tyler Perry's House Of Payne and Meet The Browns. With the news of his imminent retirement from the agency business, realscreen is proud to host Mark Itkin for a one-on-one conversation in which he will share his thoughts on over three decades in television, the evolution of the unscripted genre and the business behind it, and perhaps cast a glimpse towards its future, and his next plans.

  • Disruption As Catalyst: How to ride the waves of change

Don't miss being part of the 18th edition of the Realscreen Summit in Washington DC, taking place January 31 to February 3, 2016 at the Marriott Marquis. The agenda will be posted soon. In the meantime, we are very pleased to announce Disruption As Catalyst: How to ride the waves of change, featuring Gary Carter.

The trades have spilled much ink over the past year regarding the trials and tribulations facing the TV industry. Whether it's the impact of SVOD, the threat of a generation of "cord nevers" or ever-shifting programming strategies, there's no shortage of challenges facing producers and broadcasters working in the cable and broadcast spheres. But the smart money is on those who can, and do, adapt. In this thought-provoking presentation, Gary Carter, veteran television executive and the man Variety has called a "blue-sky thinker... offering refreshingly honest and alternative views on the development of television," will examine how to embrace the changes sweeping the industry, and use them as inspiration to innovate. What changes does Carter anticipate next, and how should you prepare for them?

As Executive Director of Programmes at Endemol in the late 1990s, Gary Carter oversaw the European roll-out of Celador's Who Wants To Be A Millionaire, and of Endemol's Big Brother. After joining FremantleMedia in the early 2000s, he managed the central IP division for scripted and non-scripted programming, and established the company's digital division. He rose to become Chief Operating Officer of the company, overseeing its European production operations, the central IP divisions, the company's gaming operations and its strategy department. In 2012 he joined Shine, as Chairman of Northern Europe, and following the merger between Shine and Endemol, he became Co-CEO of International Operations, and oversaw the merger between Endemol and Shine operations in Germany and the Nordics, before leaving the company in the summer of 2015. Carter is a non-executive director of KLOK, a video content agency based in Helsinki, Finland.

Don't miss being part of the 18th edition of the Realscreen Summit in Washington DC, taking place January 31 to February 3, 2016 at the Marriott Marquis. The Realscreen Summit is the world's foremost conference and market for the non-fiction and unscripted content industry, and the place to get deals done. The event has experienced significant growth over the last few years and will attract in the order of 2,500 buyers, creators, and distributors of factual content from all corners of the globe.

The agenda will be posted in the coming weeks, but we are very please to announce a keynote session, In conversation with: Jana Bennett, History.

Jana Bennett, named president and GM of A+E Networks' History in September of 2015, is responsible for overseeing all strategic planning, programming, marketing and brand development for History and H2. Throughout her television career – whether it was her time heading up TLC in the U.S., during which she redefined the brand by ushering in such programming as Trading Spaces and What Not to Wear, or her stint leading BBC Television, in which she oversaw the public broadcaster's six free-to-air channels in the UK – Bennett has, time and again, proven herself to be a forward thinker with a keen eye for programming and trends on the cutting edge of entertainment. Most recently, she brought that penchant for progression to her previous role as president of FYI and LMN, where in its first year, she oversaw double-digit ratings growth for the FYI network via such successes as Married at First Sight and Tiny House Nation. In this one-on-one conversation, Bennett will discuss the importance of creativity in driving innovation within the content industry, and reveal her thoughts on where she'd like to take one of cable television's most watched brands in the immediate future.

  • Changing the Script

Don't miss being part of the 18th edition of the Realscreen Summit in Washington DC, taking place January 31 to February 3, 2016 at the Marriott Marquis. The Realscreen Summit is the world's foremost conference and market for the non-fiction and unscripted content industry, and the place to get deals done. The event has experienced significant growth over the last few years and will attract in the order of 2,500 buyers, creators, and distributors of factual content from all corners of the globe.

The agenda will be posted in the coming weeks, but in the meantime a few of our much-anticipated panels have been confirmed, including Changing the Script.

Just as it did in the advent of the unscripted boom, the programming pendulum has swung once again – this time, with more networks moving into scripted programming. But while scripted may be an attractive proposition both for linear TV and SVOD platforms in terms of repeatability and buzz factor, it can be an expensive one as well. As more cable nets dive into drama, there's a need for producers skilled in accommodating "champagne tastes on a beer budget." Here, you'll hear from unscripted producers who have successfully made the move into scripted by using the skills they honed in reality, and from the showrunners and network executives who see the value in bringing those skills to the set.

You can register now for the entire conference, with access to provided meals and social events, for just $1,550. Add Master Classes and the rate is $1,875. The full conference and Master Class rate is $2,075, so the savings are significant!
