Keynote Conversation: Courteney Monroe, National Geographic Global Networks

Monday, February 1, 2016
9:45 AM - 10:45 AM

Based in Washington, DC, Courteney Monroe is chief executive officer of National Geographic Global Networks, tasked with overseeing global programming, operations and global marketing for the portfolio of National Geographic Channels (NGC) around the world, which include National Geographic Channel, Nat Geo WILD, Nat Geo People and Nat Geo MUNDO. She also has oversight of all operations of National Geographic Studios, the company’s in-house production studio.
Prior to joining National Geographic Channels U.S., Monroe was executive vice president, consumer marketing and digital platforms for HBO. With her appointment as CEO of National Geographic Global Networks, she aims to position NGC as the world’s premium science, adventure and exploration network by taking epic programming swings aimed at a broader, more upscale audience, as seen in NGC’s recent anthology series Breakthrough, from executive producers Brian Grazer and Ron Howard, and developed with iconic brand GE.
In this Keynote Conversation, Monroe will discuss the evolution of NGC’s programming strategy; how NGC’s content is now more closely aligned with the National Geographic Society’s mission and builds upon the legacy of the global brand; and how content creators can – and should – attempt to cut through the clutter of the media landscape with big, bold and global ideas.
