Chris Dorsey, Founding Partner of Denver-based Dorsey Pictures (previously Orion Entertainment), is a longtime industry executive with over 1500 hours of programming at Dorsey Pictures, including 150+ hours leading the frontier movement in Alaska-centric programming and a thriving branded entertainment division that will celebrate its 15-year anniversary in March 2016. Rather than being limited to one sector of media, Dorsey’s extensive personal deal-making extends to networks, syndicators and some of the biggest brands in the world.
With a keen eye for producing television series that reflect current popular lifestyle trends, Dorsey Pictures is consistently one of the nation’s leading production companies with 23 unscripted series airing on 11 networks with numerous other pilots in production. Through Dorsey’s leadership and vision, the company has had a remarkable triple digit growth for each of the last four years and remains the producer of the only sector of unscripted programming to show consistent ratings growth. Dorsey also focuses on creating “co-viewing” programs that are
of interest to male and female viewers rather than catering to only one demographic.
Recent pick ups and renewals of numerous programs include Tiny House Big Living (season 2 for HGTV), Living Big Sky (season 2 for HGTV), Mega Decks (season 2 for DIY), The Treehouse Guys (season 2 for DIY), Building Alaska (season 6 and 7 for DIY), Into Alaska (new series for Travel Channel), Brotherhood (pilot for A&E), Maine Cabin Hunters (new series for DIY), Alaska’s Wilderness Gourmet and Beast Rangers (new series for Outdoor Channel) and Ultimate Bush Pilots (series renewal for Outdoor Channel). In addition to lifestyle programming, Dorsey Pictures also produces leading Natural History projects including Buccaneers & Bones with Tom
Brokaw, Wyoming: Predators, Prey and People and Extermination Island.
In addition, the branded entertainment division continues to thrive. Showcasing a brand’s DNA in a memorable way, Dorsey Pictures’ world-class HD production capacity has garnered a client roster that includes some of the largest brands in the United States and their unmatched industry insight and targeted marketing strategies makes them the production company of choice for branded entertainment. Dorsey Pictures’ roster of more than 40 brand clients include Chrysler/Ram Trucks, Ford Motor Company, Cabela’s, Polaris Industries, Cabela’s, Bass Pro Shops, Arctic Cat, Swarovski and many others.
Of Dorsey Pictures, Tom Brokaw says, “I’ve worked with my share of production crews over the years and I can say without question that Orion is the gold standard.”
Prior to launching Dorsey Pictures, Dorsey spent 17 years producing more than 50 series in the outdoor adventure genre for ESPN, ESPN2, NBC Sports Network and many more.
Before beginning his career in television, Dorsey was a publishing executive, running some of the largest magazine titles in America. His work has appeared in a wide variety of national publications including The Wall Street Journal, Newsweek, Television Week, National Geographic, Writer's Digest and scores of outdoor adventure periodicals.
He is the author of seven books on adventure, natural history and business subjects.
