As Head of Acquisitions and Co-Productions at UKTV, Alexandra Finlay is responsible for strategic linear and non-linear programme supply at UKTV, securing brand-defining acquisitions and co-productions from international sources ranging from major US studios, to pan-territory distributors and independent producers and suppliers. Jointly owned by BBC Worldwide and Scripps Networks, UKTV broadcasts over 78,000 hours per year across the 10 channel network, with acquisitions comprising a significant proportion of the schedules. UKTV is a major player in the UK market; since 2010 its impacts have grown by over 40%, making it larger than C5 and Sky’s wholly-owned portfolios, with five of its channels in the Top 20 non-terrestrial ranking in 2016.
Alexandra joined UKTV from Channel 4, where she handled the acquisition of short films for Channel 4’s Shooting Gallery Strand and Film4 Channel, before serving as Editor, Feature Films, working across Channel 4, E4 and More4 with a remit covering programming, acquisition, and scheduling. Prior to that, she was a production assistant on film and series-related documentaries for BBC1 and BBC2, including the cult film strand MOVIEDROME.
Alexandra’s remit focuses on acquired content for UKTV’s entertainment channels (W, Dave, Gold, and Alibi), as well as co-productions and theatrical features across the network. Acquisitions and co-pros are instrumental to UKTV’s dynamic growth, through the delivery of unique audiences with commercially attractive profiles. Alexandra has secured some of UKTV’s biggest hit and returning franchises such as Castle, Storage Hunters, Grimm, Rizzoli & Isles, Murdoch Mysteries, Suits, and Quantico. She was awarded the World Screen World Content Trendsetter Award at MIPCOM 2016.
