Andy Singer serves as general manager for Travel Channel. In this role, he is responsible for setting the programming strategy and editorial vision of the network, working with Scripps Networks Interactive’s ad sales group to monetize its highly engaged audience, and directing research. Singer was promoted to this role in 2012 after serving as the network’s senior vice president of programming and production development.
Prior to joining Travel Channel in 2011, Singer served as senior vice president/general manager of DIY Network where he was responsible for supervising all departments including programming, creative services and marketing. In addition, Singer worked closely with sister property, HGTV, to bring about greater cooperation and collaboration between the two networks.
While at DIY Network, Singer also served as the network’s head of programming for over two years, responsible for all program development, production, on-air talent acquisition, and scheduling. He’s developed engaging and entertaining home improvement programming includingThe Vanilla Ice Project, Renovation Rookies, Yard Crashers, Man CavesandKing of Dirt. Singer commissioned groundbreaking television series, such as Disaster House and America’s first interactive home renovation series Run My Renovation. In addition, he recruited celebrities including Vanilla Ice, Snoop Dogg, Rainn Wilson, Kevin Connolly, Jay Leno, Dan Patrick and Bill Goldberg to participate in popular DIY Network series. Singer also created quarterly television events including the Search for America’s Most Desperate Landscape in conjunction with NBC’s Today show; a landscaping theme week in Mulch Madness;and the Cool Tools Holiday Blitz, an unprecedented, four-day marathon.
The personalities Singer has added to DIY Network’s lineup of expert talent helps the network garner an impressive amount of national media attention from broadcast and cable networks including NBC, CBS, ABC, plus national print media like Entertainment Weekly, Good Housekeeping,Popular Mechanics and more. During his tenure, DIY Network has surpassed 50-million households and experienced unprecedented ratings growth in its key demographics.
Prior to joining DIY Network, Singer worked as vice president of original programming for HGTV and contributed to some of the network’s highest ratings. At HGTV he supervised hit series and specials, includingMy First Place, House HuntersandDream House: After Katrina,plus high-profile projects such asLiving with Ed, a docu-soap following the extreme green lifestyle of Emmy-nominated actor Ed Begley, Jr.
Before joining Scripps Networks in 2005, Singer was a show producer at VH1 where he oversaw some of the network's most successful pop culture programming. His professional television background – which started at the age of 16 – also includes eight years as a producer, with his work appearing on A&E, Twentieth Century Fox, Fox News Channel, MSNBC and nationally syndicated broadcast series Extra and Inside Edition. He’s received accolades throughout his career including Cine Golden/Silver Eagle, New York Festival, EMA awards, and Multichannel News’ “40 Under 40.”
Singer is a University of Florida graduate and resides with his wife and two children in Knoxville, Tenn.
