Conal Byrne is Vice President of Digital Media at Discovery Communications, where he leads Discovery Channel, Science Channel and Velocity’s multiplatform digital strategies and also oversees DiscoveryNews.com. Additionally, Byrne has helped bring the Discovery News brand to new audiences through DNews– a successful online series on Discovery Digital Networks’ TestTube that complements DiscoveryNews.com’s rich science reporting.

Previously at Discovery Communications, he was instrumental in the growth and success of HowStuffWorks.com and its podcasts, such as Stuff You Should Know and Stuff Mom Never Told You, as its General Manager. Byrne also has led TLC and Discovery Fit & Health’s digital efforts. Prior to joining HowStuffWorks.com in 2007, Byrne was Editor-in-Chief and Co-Founder of The Sunday Paper, an Atlanta newsweekly. Within 12 months of its inception, the paper had accrued an audience of 500,000 weekly readers across metro Atlanta. As such, it was the fastest-growing newsweekly in the United States.

Byrne received a B.A. in English from Georgetown University and an M.A. in Spanish Literature from Columbia University.
