Edward Hersh

Principal & Chief Creative Officer

StoryCentric

Through StoryCentric -- the consultancy he founded in 2007 -- veteran media executive, strategist and producer Ed Hersh provides content networks and producers across all genres with insights on development, production, competitive analyses and storytelling strategies, including the shaping of non-fiction pilots and series.

His clients include the senior management of Discovery Communications' Investigation Discovery, American Heroes Channel, and Travel Channel. He also serves as a senior programming consultant to WNET/PBS in New York, where he has consulted on the funding, development and launch of several major multiplatform PBS journalism and documentary initiatives, including Chasing the Dream, on poverty and opportunity in America and Peril and Promise on climate change. Other clients include major non-fiction production companies in the US and Canada.

He rejoined StoryCentric in March of 2013 after nearly four years at Discovery Communications, most recently as Senior Vice President, Content Strategy for the Military Channel (now American Heroes Channel). Hersh was promoted to that position after serving as Senior Vice President, Strategic Planning for Investigation Discovery, where he was a key architect of the signature storytelling style and editorial direction that has made ID one of the most successful cable networks in recent history.

Before founding StoryCentric, he spent seven years at Court TV (now truTV), overseeing the editorial direction and production of the network’s primetime original documentary series and specials, and prior to that, as a VP of Documentary Programming at A&E. Prior to that, he spent 16 years at ABC News in a variety of senior production positions across the news division, including as a field producer, producer and later, senior producer of World News Tonight, and a range of award-winning long-form specials. His career in broadcast journalism started as a news producer at KYW-TV in Philadelphia.

He is a graduate of Syracuse University and the Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism. He currently serves as an Adjunct Professor at the S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications of Syracuse University, and is a frequent speaker and panelist at industry events.
