Sophie Ferron launched her successful Canadian-based Format agency, Media Ranch, in 2008 to develop, produce and distribute original and existing television formats around the world, specializing in factual, reality tv, docu-reality and lifestyle. The company portfolio includes internationally renowned companies such as Danish Radio (DR) and Endemol Shine Group, among others. Media Ranch won a prestigious Rose d’Or Award in 2015 for Best Reality/Factual Series.
Sophie launched and oversaw a 2018-19 Format incubator project called Horsepower, in association with Quebecor Content, to create and distribute original Canadian Format IP, solidifying the reputation that Media Ranch is known for developing and welcoming fresh Format ideas as well as helping creators to develop IP for the global marketplace. Horsepower 2.0 launched in October 2019.
Her career began as a producer with Ferron International in 1987. In 1997, Sophie was named Director of Production at Radiomutuel - Astral Media. She went on to Technicolor as Vice President of Distribution Services and held the title of COO at broadcaster TQS.
Active in the international television industry, Sophie is currently a FRAPA member, and was a featured speaker in London for the Formats 2020 Master Class in December 2019. She has been a Canadian business and government affairs consultant and served as President of the Quebec Dubbing Studios Association where she negotiated the collective agreement with the actors’ guild, Union des Artistes. Sophie is a former Board Member of: SODEC, Quebec’s public film and television funding agency, and the French Advisory Board of the Banff World Media Festival.
