As senior vice president of original programming and development for WE tv, David Stefanou is responsible for discovering and developing fresh, unscripted series that align with the network’s original programming slate. Stefanou has been instrumental in leading the development team in creating brand-defining hits like the Love After Lockup franchise, Growing Up Hip Hop, Mama June: From Not to Hot, Untold Stories of Hip Hop hosted by hip hop radio legend Angie Martinez and more. Fueled by its popular franchises, WE tv ranks as the #1 network among African American women 25-54 on Thursday and Friday nights, as well as a Top 3 cable network among all women 25-54 on Friday nights.
Stefanou has been with WE tv since 2014, and joining the company as vice president, development. Prior to joining WE tv, Stefanou served as senior vice president of programming at True Entertainment and oversaw Season 25: Oprah Behind the Scenes on OWN, Too Cute on Animal Planet, and The A List franchise on Logo, as well as a variety of shows for Bravo, Discovery and TLC. During his time at True Entertainment, he led the company’s foray into scripted fare and oversaw unscripted development. Before then, Stefanou served as vice president of original programming at Oxygen where he launched Hair Battle Spectacular, Love Games: Bad Girls Need Love Too, and Dance Your Ass Off, and oversaw continuing series like Bad Girls Club, Tori & Dean: Home Sweet Hollywood and Snapped. Before joining Oxygen, he held positions at MTV UK, Wendy Finerman Productions and Franklin & Siegel Associates.
Stefanou graduated cum laude from Amherst College with a B.A. in Theater and English.
