As the senior director of development for Investigation Discovery, Hatherill serves on the content strategy team and oversees the development for television’s preeminent true crime destination. ID currently ranks #4 in cable for Women during Total Day and is a top 10 network for Women in Primetime. With one of the most robust content pipelines in the industry, Hatherill is tasked with creating breakthrough content to engage with viewers both on-air at ID while also working to fill the true crime vertical of Discovery’s new streaming venture, discovery+.
Since joining ID in 2016, Hatherill has been responsible for developing top performing series and specials such as The Murder Tapes, Joe Exotic: Tigers, Lies and Cover-Up, Til Death Do Us Part, and The Night That Didn’t End, as well as numerous yet-to-be announced ID series. In addition, Hatherill has led projects with top-tier talent, from famed novelist James Patterson’s Murder is Forever to self-proclaimed ID Addict Khloé Kardashian’s Twisted Sisters. Most recently, he helped conceptualize one of the initial exclusive offerings on the discovery+ launch slate, American Detective with Lt. Joe Kenda.
Hatherill joined Discovery in 2015 to lead development for American Heroes Channel and subsequently Destination America. Prior to Discovery, Hatherill served as VP of Development for Sirens Media (Killing Fields, Real Housewives of New Jersey) part of ITV and Leftfield Entertainment, where he was responsible for developing, shepherding and selling dozens of projects to various networks, including long-running hits Who the (Bleep) Did I Marry?, Nightmare Next Door and Evil Twins for ID. Other series developed by Hatherill include Modern Dads and Panic 911 for A&E, Philly Throttle for Discovery Channel and Destination America’s When Ghosts Attack.
