Jane Root is Chief Executive of Nutopia, an television production company with offices in Washington and London, best known for its huge scale history series. Nutopia's first 'mega doc' was the 12-part Emmy-award winning series, America The Story of Us for History, introduced by President Obama.
Before founding Nutopia, Jane was President of Discovery Networks, where she greenlit series including Deadliest Catch, Man vs Wild and Dirty Jobs, as well as greenlighting movies such as Grizzly Man and overseeing Planet Earth.
During five years as Controller of BBC2 in the UK, Jane was responsible for launching car show Top Gear, celebrity genealogy series Who Do You Think You Are, global comedy success The Office and landmark format, Great Britons, which sold in over 60 territories worldwide.
In the last few months Nutopia and Jane Root have seen three of their series broadcast internationally. Mankind The Story of All of Us, a 12-part miniseries for History documenting the journey of mankind using drama documentary and CGI, The British, a 7-part history of the British Isles, and How We Invented The World for Discovery Networks International.
