Philip D. Segal is the CEO and Executive Producer of Original Productions, a FremantleMedia company, a post he has held since November, 2012. He joined the company in 2005 as President and Executive Producer.
During his tenure at Original Productions, the company has produced hit after hit with multiple year renewals. Series such as Appalachian Outlaws, Deadliest Catch, Bering Sea Gold, Storage Wars, Ice Road Truckers, Ax Men and the groundbreaking Monster Garage are among viewer favorites. Signature series Deadliest Catch on Discovery has been honored with 16 Primetime Emmy® Awards, most recently the 2015 Outstanding Unstructured Reality Program.
Always active in the industry, Segal serves on the Board of Governors of the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences (ATAS). In April 2015, he was named in the top 20 of Reality TV's Most Powerful Executives by The Hollywood Reporter.
Prior to joining Original Productions, Segal held executive positions at Bunim/Murray Productions, Tribune Entertainment, Amblin Entertainment, and ABC Television. He is responsible for the return of the BBC favorite Dr.Who, for which he spearheaded the creation of the 1996 telemovie Doctor Who. In 2000, he co-wrote a book about the production, titled Doctor Who: Regeneration.
In addition to his duties as a Governor of ATAS, Segal is a sought after speaker and is on the Board of Directors of the Hollywood Radio and Television Society (HRTS) and My Friend’s Place (myfriendsplace.org).
Born in the United Kingdom, Segal is a graduate of San Diego State University with a degree in Telecommunications.
