As Vice President, Unscripted Development, BBC Studios Los Angeles Productions, Joel Morgan creates, develops and packages high-concept factual and unscripted game shows and entertainment series, spanning a wide range of content from originals to fresh adaptations of hit global formats for the US market. Morgan had a central role in developing Breaking Bobby Bones, a 16-part travel and adventureseries starring American radio and television personality Bobby Bones, and Life Below Zero: First Alaskans, a spin-off of the Emmy® Award-winning Life Below Zero docuseries – both airing on National Geographic. He also played a key role in the development of the successful UK entertainment series This Is My House, which recently aired its second season on BBC One. Additionally, Morgan led development on the HGTV pilot What Not to Design starring Raven-Symoné in a home-décor-focused spin-off of BBC Studios’ long-running global format What Not to Wear.
Prior to joining BBC Studios, Morgan served as Executive Director of Development at A. Smith & Co. Productions, and as a development executive at Lake Paradise Entertainment, where he created and developed concepts for NBCUniversal with an emphasis on outdoor adventure, physical challenges and competition. Morgan also served as Head of TV and Film Development at Randy Jackson’s Dream Merchant 21 Entertainment, where he oversaw the development of unscripted and scripted content and sold original formats to Fox, MTV, VH1, Oxygen, and Fuse.
Morgan began his career in television as an assistant in scripted drama development at ABC Entertainment. He graduated from University of Michigan with a Bachelor of Arts in Film and Television.
