Jason Sarlanis is President of TNT, TBS, TruTV, ID & HLN, Linear and Streaming at Warner Bros. Discovery where he oversees programming development, production, content strategy and operations as well as a slate of true crime originals on MAX and discovery+.
Appointed to the role of President of ID in July 2021, Sarlanis has delivered breakout hits that spark national conversation including Quiet on Set: The Dark Side of Kids TV, House of Hammer, The Price of Glee, Jared From Subway: Catching A Monster and The Curious Case of Natalia Grace. He also launched a content partnership with Academy Award® winner Octavia Spencer and signed filmmaker Michael Bay to executive produce his first true crime docuseries, Born Evil. In 2022, ID topped the list of networks that producers most like to work with according to NPACT - the trade association for non-fiction companies in the U.S. Additionally, in honor of domestic violence awareness month, Sarlanis architected the network’s inaugural “No Excuse for Abuse” campaign in which ID partners with nonprofits to raise awareness and provide resources for survivors.
A skilled storyteller with a strong ability to create buzzy pop culture moments Sarlanis's role was expanded to include oversight of TNT, TBS, TruTV and HLN in December 2022. Under his leadership, TBS revived the monthly talk series that celebrates popular films with diverse voices, Friday Night Vibes, with new hosts Nina Parker and Kevin Fredericks. Additionally, Stupid Pet Tricks, the iconic David Letterman segment reimagined as a new weekly variety series hosted by Sarah Silverman, was the highest-rated premiere of a TBS original in 3 years. Recently announced, the supernatural adventure series The Librarians: The Next Chapter, based on the original TNT television and film franchise, and the four-hour miniseries Debriefing the President (w/t), featuring a dramatization of real-life international events and representing the high-octane drama TNT is known for, will premiere in 2025. The network is also developing made for TV movies that will reboot classic, fan-favorite Warner Bros. studio titles from the 1980’s and 1990’s. The new slate spotlights the drama and quality storytelling that fans love and expect from original TNT content.
Sarlanis joined Discovery, Inc. in 2016 as Senior Vice President, Development at TLC. He led development on all original programming for the TLC linear network as well as love and relationship, family and lifestyle content for discovery+. In his tenure, Sarlanis was responsible for procuring breakout hits which led TLC to become the #1 primetime cable network for women in 2020. Sarlanis spearheaded the expansion of the 90 Day Fiancé universe with ratings juggernauts The Other Way, Pillow Talk, Darcey & Stacey and The Family Chantel and championed streaming series Bares All, Love Games and The Single Life. Other brand-defining programs launched under his tenure include hit series sMothered, I Love a Mama’s Boy, Extreme Sisters as well as family docusoaps Welcome to Plathville, I Am Shauna Rae, 1000-lb Sisters and Doubling Down with the Derricos.
Prior to joining Discovery, Sarlanis worked for a variety of other global media companies including tenures at ABC, Ryan Seacrest Productions and E!. He developed and provided creative oversight on the Keeping Up with the Kardashians family of shows as well as other hit formats like Fashion Police, The Soup, Chelsea Lately, ABC’s To Tell The Truth and Battlebots.
