Since establishing part2 pictures in 2007 in his native New York, David Shadrack Smith has produced over 200 hours of award-winning programming, partnered with a dozen networks, filmed in 60 countries and created thought-provoking content around leading talent such as Lisa Ling, Dr. Sanjay Gupta, Tony Harris and LL Cool J. The company’s series and films have reached audiences on Showtime, CNN, Discovery, NatGeo, PBS, OWN and their feature films and documentaries have premiered at Tribeca and Sundance. Their many credits include nearly 100 episodes of This is Life with Lisa Ling (CNN), Scene of the Crime with Tony Harris (ID), Story of Cool (MSNBC), Belief with Oprah Winfrey (OWN), Dark Net (Showtime), Chasing Life with Dr. Sanjay Gupta (CNN) and Hard Time (NatGeo), among many more.

Prior to founding part2, David worked as a director, producer and DP as staff on National Geographic’s Explorer series and has worked in almost 80 countries, including 7 years in Beijing, China as a journalist and documentary filmmaker. Throughout his career, his work has earned nine Emmy nominations, four IDA nods, a Sundance Jury Prize, and numerous other awards.
