Kannie Yu LaPack is Senior Vice President, Publicity and Public Affairs, for Lifetime and Lifetime Movies (LMN). Based in Los Angeles, Yu LaPack oversees the bicoastal publicity team in all consumer, trade, awards strategy and public affairs initiatives for the networks.
Most recently, Yu LaPack lead all the publicity and public affairs efforts for Surviving R. Kelly, which, to date, has reached over 24.5 million total viewers. As part of the awareness campaign, Yu LaPack relaunched the Emmy-awards winning public affairs campaign, Stop Violence Against Women, bringing together key advocacy groups, influencers and political leaders to ensure resources and support was readily available to the survivors and to viewers. The campaign included a new PSA in 2018 featuring survivors of sexual violence, featuring actress and activist Alyssa Milano, meToo Founder Tarana Burke, RISE Founder and Nobel Peace Prize nominee for authoring the Survivors Bill of Rights, Amanda Nguyen, and R. Kelly survivor Kitti Jones.
Prior, Yu LaPack was Vice President, Publicity from 2013-2017, overseeing the team’s consumer publicity, partnerships and awards campaigns. Yu LaPack was part of the team that lead Lifetime to a record 17 Emmy nominations in 2014. She was responsible for overseeing the launches of the Peabody, Emmy-nominated, AFI and Critic’s Choice Award-winning drama UnREAL, critically acclaimed YOU, Mary Kills People and hit Devious Maids. Yu LaPack managed all press efforts for the buzzed about films, A Deadly Adoption starring Will Ferrell and Kristen Wiig; the remake of cult classic, Mother, May I Sleep with Danger? for its 20th Anniversary from executive producer James Franco and Lifetime’s highly acclaimed 2017 movie, Story of a Girl, which marked Golden Globe winner Kyra Sedgwick’s directorial debut and stared Kevin Bacon.
From 2010 – 2013, Yu LaPack was Sr. Director, Publicity, launching the critical hit and beloved series, Drop Dead Diva and the all African American remake of Steel Magnolias, starring Queen Latifah, Alfre Woodard and Jill Scott. Steel Magnolias ranks as Lifetime’s 3rd highest rated movie in the history of the network. Yu LaPack also oversaw the A+E Networks cross network miniseries event, Bonnie & Clyde, which reached over 43 million in its telecasts across Lifetime, A&E and HISTORY.
As Director of Publicity at Lifetime from 2008 to 2010, Yu LaPack launched the Emmy Award nominated series Project Runway on the network, which remains Lifetime’s highest rated series premiere in history. She also managed all press aspects for the Golden Globe nominated miniseries Coco Chanel, starring Shirley MacLaine and Sigourney Weaver’s Prayers for Bobby. Yu LaPack joined the company in 2006 as a manager of publicity, launching the networks’ #2 highest rated movie, Life is Not a Fairytale: The Fantasia Barrino Story.
Prior to her tenure at Lifetime, Yu LaPack was a publicist with ABC Family (now Freeform), where she worked on the networks’ 25 Days of Christmas programming slate and the launch of the movie Snow. Yu LaPack also launched the scripted series Beautiful People. She started at ABC Family as an assistant, and was promoted to a publicist in less than a year.
Yu LaPack began her career in television as an intern at ABC Television, working in the communications department, specifically focused on special events. She went on to join the corporate communications team, working closely with the network’s speech writer, contributing to network remarks and releases. Yu LaPack was also previously the assistant to the West Coast Editor of Reader’s Digest, working on securing celebrity covers for the magazine.
Yu LaPack received a Bachelor’s of Arts in Communications, with a Minor in Psychology, from UCLA, where she graduated with college honors. She resides in Los Angeles with her husband Landon, son Logan and daughter Kaiya.
