Johnny is CEO of HiddenLight, the global studio launched in December 2020. Founded by Hillary Rodham Clinton, Sam Branson and Chelsea Clinton, the company creates premium documentary, unscripted, and scripted entertainment for TV, film, and digital. HiddenLight celebrates the best of the human spirit and helps audiences see the world in new ways.
Johnny believes in the power of film to change the way we see the world. His 26 years of TV and film experience spans production, commissioning and channel management.
Johnny was formerly CEO and co-founder of Sundog Pictures, the premium production company working with multiple platforms, exploring different funding models and new kinds of storytelling. At Sundog, Johnny oversaw over 60 hours of premium documentaries for the world’s leading broadcasters, platforms and brands – BBC, Channel 4, Channel 5, Google, Netflix, YouTube Originals, National Geographic, Smithsonian Channel, NFL - programming that sold to every corner of the globe.
Johnny’s vision of working with the world’s most impactful voices saw the company attract extraordinary and diverse talent to its projects – including Morgan Freeman, Brian Cox, Priyanka Chopra, Mary Portas and Rita Ray. His vision for high end ‘box set’ factual series and his passion for new kinds of storytelling led to a push into the US with the global series for YouTube called If I Could Tell You Just One Thing. He also led Sundog’s campaign work with the charity sector – including the pioneering deathpenaltyfail.org campaign to abolish the death penalty in the US, featuring YouTube shorts with award-winning directors. A Lethal Injection, directed by Bruce Goodison has garnered over 20 million views since it launched.
Prior to Sundog, Johnny was Managing Director of Virgin Media TV, running a suite of successful cable channels, including Living. In 2010, he oversaw Virgin Media’s sale of its content business and its subsequent integration into Sky TV. He lives in Brighton with his wife and two children.
