Sahara Bushue joined Westbrook Studios as Senior Vice President and Head of Unscripted in November 2020. Westbrook Studios is a subsidiary of Westbrook Inc., the media company launched in 2019 by founders Jada Pinkett Smith and Will Smith, to empower artists to tell stories that connect with a global audience. In her role, Bushue will work to expand Westbrook Studios footprint in the non-scripted space by identifying new series for development and creating a robust slate of high-quality long-form projects. Their first series Amend: The Fight for America on Netflix, starring Will Smith, looks at the evolving fight for equal rights through the lens of the US Constitution’s 14h Amendment. They also recently launched Welcome to Earth starring Will Smith with Disney+ and NatGeo - and locked in a five-year first-look deal with the Disney company. They announced two more series with Netflix that are meant to begin production this year, African Queens, a docu-hybrid telling the true stories of historic royalty, and a Will Smith starring variety special. Prior to Westbrook, Bushue served as the SVP of Alternative Development & Current Programming at NBC. During her 12 years at NBC, she oversaw numerous hit series including America’s Got Talent, Ellen’s Game of Games, World of Dance, Little Big Shots, and Hollywood Game Night. Bushue got her start in the industry through the renowned NBC Page Program.
