Michael Gara has been an Executive Producer at Discovery since 2017 overseeing key franchises including Naked and Afraid, where he has been executive producer for nearly 200 hours of the survival program, as well as Josh Gates’ adventure brand including Expedition Unknown, Expedition X, Josh Gates Tonight and the upcoming Tales from the Explorers Club.

Before coming to Discovery, Michael was a Senior Vice President at Karga 7 where he got to see the world through a drink as he oversaw Travel’s Booze Traveler among others. As a producer, Michael’s credits include the first season of The Real Housewives, the original tentpole of the Housewives franchise. He then came up through Original Productions and worked with Thom Beers in creating the male demo-focused TV subgenre as showrunner for truTV’s Black Gold and leading development of History’s Ax Men among others.

Michael received a 2018 Emmy nomination for his work on Naked and Afraid and is a graduate of Syracuse University’s Newhouse School of Public Communication. Go Orange!
