Richard was one of the most successful BBC4 Channel Controllers in its history, winning Channel of the Year twice. He has earned numerous awards, including Oscar, BAFTA, RTS, Grierson and Emmys. Among his many international documentary successes, is the Oscar winning, Man on Wire. He now oversees all Plimsoll’s documentary slate. Richard won Commissioner of the year and the Edinburgh Film and TV Festival in 2014 for his time running Factual Commissioning at ITV. Prior to that, at the BBC, as Commissioning Editor, Documentaries, he was named Commissioner of the Year in Broadcast magazine; commissioning the White Season, The Verdict and National Trust, as well as Tribe, The Choir, Britain From Above, Traffic Cops and Great Ormond Street. In 2007 he was made BBC Head of Independent Factual Commissioning, before being appointed Controller, BBC Four. He commissioned Lucy Worsley, Janina Ramirez and Helen Castor programming, and won BAFTA awards and nominations for Getting On, The Killing and British Masters. Richard is well known as a daring, unique and ambitious commissioner and creative leader.
