A development and acquisitions executive with longstanding rapport among filmmakers in fiction and non-fiction, Marjon Javadi, is vice president, Disney Documentary Films at Disney Branded Television. In her role leading the Disney Documentary banner, she develops and produces feature films, series, and shorts, working with filmmakers at all stages of their careers to deliver exclusive stories for the Disney+ global streaming platform.
Javadi has stewarded a diverse, multigenerational slate for Disney, including Tribeca Film Festival’s beloved series, Choir, directed by the Emmy award-winning Rudy Valdez, Mary McCartney’s If These Walls Could Sing which premiered at Telluride Film Festival, and the 6x Emmy award-winning documentary film Jim Henson: Idea Man, directed by Academy-Award winning director Ron Howard, the most Emmy award-winning documentary in 2024. In addition to developing the Jim Henson documentary, Javadi shepherded Disney’s first Academy Award®-nominated documentary short film since 1959, Sean Wang’s Nǎi Nai & Wài Pó. – which is part of the revival of Walt Disney’s Academy Award winning short documentary series, People and Places.
Prior to joining Disney, she worked in development funding at Doc Society, supporting films at early stages, including Academy-nominated The Edge of Democracy, directed by Petra Costa, Emmy-winner Softie by Sam Soko and Emmy-winning Roll Red Roll by Nancy Schwartzman. She joined Netflix in the documentary unit’s inaugural year, working in development and acquisitions on award-winning films and series including Virunga, Chef’s Table, and Making a Murderer, among others. Previously, she served as a scripted production and development executive at Animal Kingdom Films and Scott Rudin Productions. Javadi started her career working at CAA’s Media Finance Group, for Academy Award®-winning filmmaker Ross Kauffman, and at Focus Features.
She has served on juries at SXSW, DOC NYC, and the Chicago International Film Festival, as well as on the selection committee for the Sundance Institute | The Walt Disney Company Artist Fellowship program. Most recently, Javadi joined the nominations committee for the inaugural Henry Awards for Public Interest Documentary, a program of Harvard Kennedy School’s Shorenstein Center on Media. Javadi was recognized as one of Variety’s New Leaders in 2022, DOC NYC’s Documentary New Leaders in 2020, an Impact Partners 2018 Producers Fellow, and is a member of the Jacob Burns Film Center Industry Advisory Committee.
She is a first-generation Iranian-American from Chicago, now residing in Los Angeles.
