D’Angela Proctor is TV One’s SVP of Original Programming & Production. In this role, she maintains creative and business oversight for all original programming, including a portfolio of true crime, factual, reality, scripted, specials, original movies and a daily news and entertainment program.
Under her original programming leadership, TV One is on a definitive trajectory that is sure to solidify the network as the premiere destination for viewers who desire a multi-dimensional view of African American life and culture. In addition to overseeing the network’s franchise series Unsung and the juggernaut true crime and justice night of programming anchored by Fatal Attraction and For My Man, Proctor launched the country’s first and only daily news program dedicated to the African American audience, News One Now featuring Roland S. Martin. Proctor was also the driving force behind ushering the network into the production of original movies, including the development and production of 26 original movies in less than 3 years that have premiered to record-breaking ratings results. Last year, the original movie and true crime strategies intersected with the premiere of When Love Kills: The Falicia Blakely Story. When Love Kills, based upon a true story that first appeared on For My Man, premiered in August 2017, attracting 1.2 million unique viewers (1.6 million unique viewers for the night). It now ranks as TV One’s #1 original movie premiere of all time among all key demos and made the premiere night TV One’s best Monday prime performance of all time.
Proctor’s accomplishments have not gone unnoticed. For four years straight from 2014-present, Proctor has been honored by Cablefax Magazine as one of the most influential minorities in cable and in 2015, she was honored by Multichannel News in conjunction with Women in Cable Television as a Woman to Watch.
A veteran of music, film and television entertainment, Proctor joined TV One from Strange Fruit Media, where she was a co-owner and co-president. During her 15 years with Strange Fruit, Proctor developed, created and/or produced music videos, live music and comedy recordings, documentaries, feature films and television series. In the television arena, Proctor served as an executive producer and creative consultant to Black Entertainment Television from 2008 to 2010. During that time, she developed and/or executive produced multiple film and television projects, including Sunday Best, which earned the 43rd Annual NAACP Image Award for Outstanding Reality Series in 2011. She later created OWN’s first female-centric docu-reality series, Love in the City.
Before entering the media business, Proctor practiced labor and employment defense law at Reed, Smith, Shaw & McClay in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, where she litigated cases for clients in the banking, public utilities and corporate sectors. Proctor earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science from Spelman College and a Juris Doctorate and Master of Science in Leadership from Duquesne University. Proctor currently resides in Washington, DC, with her son Nikolas.
