Beth Hoppe is Chief Programming Executive and General Manager, General Audience Programming at PBS. She is responsible for creating and implementing PBS’ primetime content strategy, strengthening PBS’ core series and commissioning the highest-quality new programming in the arts, independent film, drama, history, natural history, science, and news and public affairs.
Under her leadership, PBS ended the 2013-2014 broadcast season with the fifth-highest average primetime household rating among all broadcast and cable networks.
Hoppe joined PBS in 2011 as Vice President, General Audience Programming, coming to PBS from Discovery Studios. Prior to Discovery, she was President and CEO of Optomen Productions (USA), a New York-based television production company.
Earlier, Hoppe worked in public broadcasting as a producer at NHPTV, series producer for NOVA at WGBH, and managing science and history programs at WNET, where she created the House franchise, including the popular Frontier House.
