Max Micallef is West Coast VP and co-head of development for A+E Networks’ The History Channel, and part of the 2024 cohort of the Realscreen Factual Under 40. In this role, Micallef co-runs development for the network and executive produces some of HISTORY’s main nonfiction programming. He joined the network in December 2018 and is based in Los Angeles.
Among the HISTORY series he is Executive Producing is Secrets Declassified with David Duchovny, History’s Greatest Picks with Mike Wolfe, Monsterquest, and History’s Greatest Warriors. Previously, Micallef EP’d Lost U-Boats of WW2, Lost Gold of the Aztecs, Great Escapes with Morgan Freeman, and History’s Greatest Heists with Pierce Brosnan.
Micallef joined HISTORY from Discovery Channel where he worked alongside international and domestic producers to develop primetime series for the network and helped set the strategy for new projects. During his time with Discovery Channel, Micallef was an instrumental part of the team that developed or produced series including Finding Escobar’s Millions, Killing Fields, Amish Mafia, and Moonshiners. Prior to joining Discovery Channel, Micallef was a Production Assistant for Discovery Studios in Silver Spring, MD. While at Discovery Studios, he was responsible for pitching and developing projects for multiple networks.
Micallef holds a Bachelor’s Degree from Syracuse University where he majored in Broadcast Journalism and History with a minor in Political Science.
